Year-Round Expanded Learning Opportunities:


Children and Charity International (CAC) provides expanded learning engagement for youth from Kindergarten through College. The program includes homework assistance; academic enrichment; STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), social enrichment and arts; job-training; workforce development; mentoring; and apprenticeship. (a) Homework Help, Enrichment, and Recreation: Students from pre-Kindergarten to 8th grade receive afterschool homework help and one-on-one tutoring in mathematics, reading, and language arts, to achieve and surpass grade level standards. Youth utilize digital drills to improve performance. Youth participate in social and recreational activities that include music, art, dance, drama, and basketball as part of the daily regimen. Monday to Friday 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm, throughout the school year.

(b) Arts, and SEL: Students from pre-Kindergarten to 8th grade explore Theater Arts, Dance, and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities, as afterschool enrichment from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm, Monday to Thursday throughout the school year.

(c) Peer Mentoring Project: Youth 12 to 18 years lend their voices, hands, and minds to engaging and interactive discussions, about life experiences in their development including dealing with challenges, successes, and failures, 2 days per week afterschool. They brainstorm about possible solutions, and why they need to make smart decisions that would have positive impact in their lives. Contact us for further details.

(d) Summer Engagement (June to August): (1) STEM-based Enrichment and Social Engagement (youth preK-8th grade). Youth explore math, science, and technology; and enjoy dancing and playing basketball. (2) Work-readiness, STEM, and Mentorship (youth 14-21 years). Youth engage in a variety of hands-on activities exploring STEM. They hone leadership, and work readiness skills. Youth engage in social and recreational activities like: cooking, sewing, crocheting, playing basketball, baseball, double dutch and other activities.Many get job training an hold apprenticeships, while others conduct peer mentoring, gain knowledge on financial literacy; drug awareness and prevention; and cosmetology techniques. (3) Growth Industry. Young adults (22-24 years) get opportunities to hold jobs and gain real life exposure on navigating organizational cultures, working effectively with groups of co-workers and individuals in management positions, meeting expectations of the virtual or in-person work-place environment, and acquiring skills necessary to succeed in today's evolving workforce, and related high demand career choices.


(e) Reading and Literacy. Researchers have found that reading is powerful, and positively impacts children’s learning and achievement. Children & Charity International wants to contribute toward this outcome. Follow the Read A Book Resources Page link. It contains the Mingo Learns ... series of books that help children overcome challenges, build self-confidence, and improve academically. There is also a Parents' Handbook, and other books.
